For more than 200 years Taylorsville Road has joined the past (Louisville) with the present (Jeffersontown). The historic road flows through the center of Jeffersontown and is lined with stately homes mixed with commercial uses.
Jeffersontown is only a 15-minute drive from Louisville International Airport and Louisville's downtown area. The city is framed by Hurstbourne Parkway, a premier commercial corridor; Stony Brook and Plainview, two large shopping centers; Gaslight Square, a small town neighborhood-shopping district; and Blakenbaker Crossings, Jefferson County's fastest growing mixed-use development.
Gaslight Square is the heart of Jeffersontown, located at the intersection of Watterson Trail (named after Henry Watterson) and Taylorsville Road. Gaslight Square has been the center of the city for more than two centuries and is home to civic, office and retail uses and the city government.
Although Jeffersontown knows how to get business done, its citizens also know how to have fun. The city hosts the Gaslight Festival in September of each year, a series of events spread over a week with something for everyone. The community is also home to numerous regionally endorsed baseball and softball tournaments at its award-winning Skyview Park complex. Other nearby attractions include the Blackacre Nature Preserve, the Floyds Fork Soccer Complex and the University of Louisville Shelby Campus.
Blankenbaker Crossings is the most recent real estate development area in the region. It is a mixed-use development that borders Bluegrass Industrial Park in the east. The development includes industrial uses, world headquarters such as Papa John's International, retail outlets, restaurants and McKendree College, a four-year liberal arts school.
Located adjacent to I-64, Bluegrass Industrial Park is one of the premier commercial corridors in Jefferson County and houses nearly 900 companies. Bluegrass Industrial Park was developed in the mid-1960s at a time when Jefferson County was lacking in industrial growth. Being located just 15 minutes east of downtown Louisville made Jeffersontown the perfect spot for the 1,800-plus-acre business complex. The Bluegrass Industrial Park offers a variety of businesses.
A number of shopping developments, restaurants and hotels are located in the Jeffersontown area of Hurstbourne. Two of the major shopping centers are Plainview Shopping Center at Linn Station Road and Stony Brook Shopping Center at Taylorsville Road.
The Jefferson County Public School District provides quality education to students of both Louisville and Jeffersontown. Students are provided with an experienced teaching staff, modern facilities and strong community involvement.
For higher education a number of colleges and universities are located nearby including Bellarmine University, Spalding University, Indiana University Southeast, Sullivan University, Kentucky College of Business, Spencerian University and Jefferson Community College. The University of Louisville was founded in 1828 and is the oldest city-supported college in the United States.
